Dr. Smoot is a senior psychiatrist with more than 38 years of clinical practice. He proudly graduated at the top of his high school class as Valedictorian and Suma Cum Laude from the Ohio State University. Dr. Smoot was very active in undergraduate campus leadership programs and inducted into the prestigious campus Sphinx men’s honorary society for these achievements. He progressed to attend Medical School at Ohio State University and pursued his psychiatric residency training at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, after which he transitioned to active duty medical service. He was awarded the United States Navy Health Profession Scholarship and then progressed to active Navy Military Service, where he retired at the rank of a Senior Psychiatric Medical Officer Commander after more than 20 years, both in peacetime and combat venues. Dr. Smoot is board certified in both general adult psychiatry and forensic (legal) psychiatry. He is well versed in a wide range of psychiatric disorders, with particular interests in post-traumatic stress disorder, both combat related as well as non-combat related, developmental/sexual trauma, and psychopharmacology medication management for a wide range of psychiatric disorders.
